Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre

The Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre (DSWMC) in Qatar is the first such integrated solid waste treatment facility in the Middle East, and one of few in the world.
As a Design-Build-Operate (DBO) project, Keppel Seghers will subsequently operate the waste management facility for 20 years. The project secured by Keppel Seghers is the largest environmental engineering undertaking that a Singaporean company has won in the international market.
It is designed to treat up to 2,300 tonnes per day of mixed domestic solid waste and up to 5,000 tonnes per day of construction and demolition waste.
Waste as a Resource
Combining waste prevention, recycling of used goods, water re-use, sorting and separate waste collection and a well-organised and controlled waste stream which focuses on energy and material recovery, the DSWMC utilises waste as a resource, thereby minimising landfilling needs.
Technological Synergies
The DSWMC combines several technologies in one installation. It combines preprocessing, mechanical and organic recycling and power-generating technologies, offering a synergy and hence higher energy and material recovery rate that would be unattainable if each technology is employed individually.
