To ensure that everyone goes home safely, Keppel continues to reinforce a strong safety mindset and culture among its employees. New initiatives help to improve safety standards at workplaces across the Group.

At Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE), 26 February 2009 saw the successful implementation of its first safety initiative for the year, ’Stop, Look, Think and Act’.

The initiative was launched by Mr Soh Chee Keong, Senior GM of KIE, at this year’s Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) seminar which was well attended by staff.

With the aim of reinforcing a strong safety culture among its employees, the latest initiative encourages them to think through work procedures carefully before acting.

A new series of posters to be placed prominently in all of KIE’s facilities will serve as a reminder that safety always comes first.

Mr Chan Kim Yam, EHS Manager of Keppel Seghers, shared, “Accidents often happen in seconds and without warning. A single second’s lapse in concentration or attention can result in catastrophic consequences. Many accidents can be avoided if we just take the time to think about how to do our work safely.”

Despite higher levels of activities among all the KIE business units for the past three years, the accident frequency rate and accident severity rate remain below industrial averages.
