Keppel Integrated Engineering Sponsors Semakau Corporate Environmental Outreach Run
Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE) and Keppel Land (KLL) were platinum sponsors for the second Semakau Corporate Environmental Outreach (CEO) Run organised by the National Environment Agency (NEA). KIE and KLL were also sponsors for the inaugural run.
The event took place on Pulau Semakau on 19 October 2008. As Singapore’s only offshore landfill, the unique venue was chosen to showcase the successful union of proper waste management with a vibrant ecosystem.
The run was flagged off by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim. The Run formed part of the Clean and Green Singapore (CGS) programme which aims to enhance the 3P (People, Public and Private) sectors’ involvement in environmental ownership and adoption of environmental-friendly practices.
Proceeds from the Run will benefit six local environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and be used for developing and sustaining their community outreach and education efforts to enhance the public’s environmental responsibility.
One of the beneficiaries, the Environmental Challenge Organisation (Singapore), also known as ECO Singapore, will be using the proceeds mainly to support their overhead of ECOSphere, a business scheme which seeks to provide advice and infrastructural support to green business start-ups by young entrepreneurs.
