More green initiatives were implemented across the Keppel Group, empowering Keppelites to better contribute towards environmental protection.

Keppel continues to keep abreast of green business strategies and practices when green champions from the various business units attended the Environment Champions Workshop on 5 September 2008.

The first in a series of three, the workshop was jointly organised by Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE) and National Environment Agency (NEA). It allows environment champions to gain valuable knowledge and share innovative ideas with their organisation on how they can help to protect the environment.

Mr Soh Chee Keong, Executive Director of KIE, agreed that the “workshop is indeed timely, as various business units across the Group are rolling out plans to introduce green products, eco-services and sustainable business operations involving not only customers but also engaging the internal and external stakeholders.”

During the workshop, the green champions worked in groups to brainstorm on how to pitch, plan, communicate and implement environmental initiatives. Participants also had to pledge their commitment to play their role for the environment.

After this initiation, Keppel’s green champions will join the league of more than 500 NEA Corporate Environment Champions.

Mr Lee Yuen Hee, CEO of NEA, hopes that through the programme, participants will gain “renewed inspiration and energy to pursue environmental initiatives, as well as a better understanding of how [Green Champions] can assist to add to Keppel’s excellent record of environmental ownership and sustainability.”
