Keppel and CNEPC form strategic partnership to grow environmental business in China

Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE), the environmental technology and engineering division of Keppel Corporation Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on strategic partnership with China National Environmental Protection Corporation (CNEPC) today to address the biomass and sludge treatment market in China.

The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Alphonsus Chia, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of IE Singapore, and Mr Han Zhi, Deputy General Manager of China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation (CECIC), the parent company of CNEPC.

Mr Chua Chee Wui, Chief Executive Officer of KIE, said “This partnership will accelerate our efforts to secure a share of the growing market for green and alternative energy in China and beyond. It is part of our continuous effort to grow our presence in China by establishing strategic partnerships with like-minded partners.

“With CNEPC’s capital and network resources and KIE’s state-of-the-art technology, I am confident this partnership is well positioned to introduce our environmental and alternative energy solutions to the China market.”

KIE has established a track record of quality solutions and innovative products in China. To date, it is involved in the development of alternative energy projects like waste-to-energy plants in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Tianjin, Changshu and Jiangyin, as well as municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants in Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang, Shenzhen and Foshan.

This MOU will not have any significant impact on the net tangible assets and earnings per share of Keppel Corporation Limited for the financial year ending 31 December 2006.
